Kalium sulfuricum is a homeopathic remedy that is derived from potassium sulfate and that acts mainly on the nervous system, mucous membranes and skin.
Kalium sulfuricum and potassium sulphate
This homeopathic medicinal product is prepared from potassium sulphate which comes in the form of white crystals soluble in water and insoluble in alcohol.
It is a ternary salt, the formula of which is K2SO4, also known as potassium bisulfate or potassium acid sulfate. It is a natural mineral obtained from potassium salts and sulfuric acid.
Potassium sulfate is widely used as a fertilizer both in professional agriculture and for domestic gardening purposes and which allows to greatly and easily improve the life of the plant and its resistance to threats related to any external agents.
In addition, having a function of acidity regulator and synthetic processing aid, it can be used as a salt substitute.
It is used in various products such as in the manufacture of beer, certain liqueurs, sugary drinks and in the production of foods low in sodium.
Kalium sulfuricum: homeopathic remedy
As already anticipated, this remedy acts mainly:
- on the nervous system;
- on the mucous membranes;
- on the skin.
Kalium sulfuricum has never been tested on healthy subjects, so all the data available have been obtained from the daily clinical practice exercised on sick subjects.
What emerges from the analysis of the cases treated in the last two centuries is that the clinical picture susceptible to treatment with Kalium sulfuricum is similar to that of Pulsatilla both in psychological and physical aspects.
The similarity between these two medicines could be traced back to the significant amount of potassium sulphate contained in the Pulsatilla flower.
Kalium sulfuricum and Schüssler salts
Kalium sulfuricum is also part of Schüssler salts or Tissutali salts, or twelve preparations based on diluted mineral salts, used for therapeutic purposes in natural and complementary medicine, conceived in the second half of the nineteenth century by the German doctor Wilhelm Schüssler.
Schüssler salts are made from inorganic sources, but can also be derived from plants. They are diluted and dynamized homeopathically, then follow a process of succussion, but do not follow the simillimum rule.
In particular, Kalium sulfuricum is indicated for all chronic inflammations as it helps detoxify the body. It is also indicated in chronic bronchitis, whooping cough, some skin diseases, digestive disorders, intestinal phlegm, vagienal discharge and conjunctivitis, irregular menstrual cycle.

- Respiratory system: bronchitis, cough that worsens in hot environments, secretion of greenish-yellow phlegm;
- Musculoskeletal system: chronic pains that change place.
As we have already seen for the other constitutional types analyzed in our insights, each subject records a worsening and improvement of the symptomatology in particular circumstances. In the case of Kalium sulfuricum the symptomatology worsens with heat, rest and evening; instead, it improves in the open air and with movement.
Finally, this constitutional typology presents an aversion to hot foods and a constant desire for drinks and cold foods.
