What is Crotalus?

Crotalus is one of the nerve agents and focuses on the vascular muscles. The main areas of application include cardiovascular diseases, circulatory disorders, thrombosis and increased susceptibility to infections. The remedy is also given for purulent skin ulcers (boils, carbuncles, abscesses), hyperthyroidism and yellow fever. It is used in the so-called hemorrhagic diathesis, where an excessive tendency to bleed (including nosebleeds, coughing up blood, bloody stools, retinal bleeding) is one of the symptoms. The drug is suitable for the treatment of delirium tremens.

The use of Crotalus is to be distinguished from the related remedy Lachesis.

How do you recognize patients who need Crotalus?

The appearance of Crotalus often coincides with the symptoms of alcoholics. One is bloated, the face is purple or extremely pale, the facial expression appears dazed, there are hallucinations and a severe lack of memory and concentration. The eyeballs are yellowish, vision is impaired, accompanied by increased sensitivity to light. The lips are swollen and immobile. The tongue is red, sore, swollen and ulcerated, also showing yellowing. There is severe, throbbing frontal headache with dilated pupils; this occurs in women mainly before menstruation.

The patients continue to report swelling of the lymph nodes, bloody excretions, severe itching of the skin all over the body, dizziness, anxiety and a fever in stages, as in typhoid fever. One suffers from rancid-bilious heartburn, avoids constricting clothing in the diaphragm area. It comes to calf and foot cramps with mostly swollen feet in the evening. The small extremities feel numb or overrun with ants. One dreams increasingly of quarrels and dead people. Men suffer from potency problems.
