Opium in homeopathy: properties, benefits and uses (all you need to know)

What is opium?

Homeopathy uses opium for extremely contrasting ailments. Examples of this are insomnia and lethargy, insensitivity and hypersensitivity of the sense organs (smell, taste, feeling) as well as the treatment of extreme alcohol intoxication and the support of alcohol withdrawal.

Furthermore, opium is used for paralysis after a stroke and against constipation. The triggers for suffering are either positive feelings, such as excessive joy, or negative feelings, such as anger, shame, and shock. While heat, sleep, and the time after sleep make symptoms worse, cool surroundings and exercise improve them.

Leading symptoms

  • sleepiness
  • Insensitive to pain
  • Deep sleep with snoring and sweating, hard to wake up
  • Discomfort after a shock or head injury
  • unconsciousness
  • Dark red face
  • Constipation without urging to defecate
  • Rare breathing or cessation of breathing during sleep

Information about the agent

How do you recognize patients who need homeopathic opium?

According to its different application effects, opium is used in two groups of patients: some are listless, apathetic and insensitive to pain; the others are prone to hyperactivity, hypersensitivity, and insomnia. Sleep is either numb and accompanied by rattling breathing and snoring, or does not come at all with increased hearing. Social behavior is characterized either by extreme joylessness and indifference or by great cheerfulness and talkativeness.

Those affected are jumpy and suffer from delusions, during which they do not even recognize people in their immediate vicinity. Smell and appetite are either lost or increase to extreme sensitivity and constant cravings. The most noticeable symptoms are half-closed eyelids, a drooping lower jaw and extreme congestion in the head area. Another opium characteristic is constipation with abdominal distension, intestinal pains, and absent or receding stools that are formed into small, hard, black balls.

Application information

Dosage forms of opium

The most common doses of opium are between D6 and D12.

Opium dosage

If you have trouble falling asleep, take about two hours before going to bed and five globules in the potency D12 immediately beforehand. Acute constipation is also treated in this dilution by giving five globules three times a day. Chronic constipation is treated with D30 potencies and this is given once a day.

In trauma therapy, five globules D6 or D12 are given in acute mental shock. This dose can be continued every half hour, or in particularly severe cases every quarter of an hour, until there is an improvement. The drug is then discontinued or, if necessary, can be taken once a day in the potency D30.

Opium effect

Opium affects the central nervous system and the digestive organs.

Opium in pregnancy

Opium is used during pregnancy to treat insomnia, when falling asleep and staying asleep is impossible despite being very tired. Psychologically, the drug is used in trauma therapy, especially after miscarriages, caesarean sections and other individual birth traumas. Pronounced constipation and hard constipation, which occur as a result of the emotional upheaval, are an important leading symptom for the administration of opium.

Opium for the baby

The homeopathic remedy is given to babies who are pale or bluish in the face immediately after birth and unresponsive to stimuli. Even if the babies are very sleepy and dizzy hours or days after birth, opium is given.

Opium for dog, horse and cat

The homeopathic opium is given to animals with obstinate constipation. The animals do not seem to feel any urge to defecate and hardly any pain. You are sleepy and hardly react.

Side Effects of Opium

The homeopathic opium requires a prescription up to and including the potency D5. Even if no side effects are known, the remedy should best be administered in consultation with a homeopath.

Typical potencies: Opium is mostly used in the potencies 6X, 6X, 12X and 12X.
