Salvia Officinalis in homeopathy: properties, benefits and uses (all you need to know)

What is Salvia officinalis?

In contrast to the wide range of treatments in classical herbal medicine, in homeopathy Salvia officinalis is mainly used to regulate sweating, ie excessive sweating.

The remedy is still given to breastfeeding mothers who have excess milk or to help with weaning.
The homeopathic mother tincture can still be used for mouth and throat rinses for sore throats or inflammation in the throat / pharynx.

Application information

Dosage form of Salvia officinalis

It is preferable to use the mother tincture or globules/tablets in low potency.

Salvia officinalis dosage

Mothers who are breastfeeding receive five globules/one tablet in the potency 6X or 12X three times a day. Chronic sweating in the course of menopausal symptoms may be treated with a higher potency with a once or twice dose of D30 per week; in acute cases, an additional dose of 6X or 12X is given.

Mouth / throat rinses with the mother tincture are not carried out more than five times a day.

Salvia officinalis during pregnancy

Salvia officinalis should not be taken on its own during pregnancy. Only after the birth is it used for weaning or excess milk.

Side effects of Salvia officinalis

Due to the thujone content, an overdose must be avoided with the mother tincture and low potencies, otherwise symptoms of poisoning could occur. Long-term therapies with Salvia officinalis are therefore ideally coordinated with a homeopath. At the beginning of the therapy, there may be a brief initial aggravation of the symptoms, which should subside within 30 minutes.

Typical potencies: Mother tincture, D2 to D12

fabric type: medicinal plant
