For many women, abdominal pain is part of their menstrual period. Homeopathic medicines can relieve or even eliminate menstrual cramps.
Almost every woman suffers from menstrual cramps at some point in her life. Pain in the back and lower abdomen and discomfort up to and including vomiting are the most common reasons for young women to see a doctor. The symptoms are often so bad that private life suffers, school cannot be attended or women cannot go to work.
Menstrual pain: normal or abnormal?
If menstrual problems occur regularly, it is called dysmenorrhea. Menstrual problems often improve with the first pregnancy, but sometimes the problems persist until the menopause. In most cases, no organic causes can be found for the menstrual pain. However, every woman who frequently suffers from menstrual cramps should have her gynecologist clarify whether there are organic reasons.
Typical signs of dysmenorrhea are:
- painful, sometimes colicky cramps in the abdomen, which can spread to the back or thighs
- diarrhea, nausea and vomiting
- sometimes constipation
- headaches and migraines
The symptoms often begin before the bleeding begins, but are usually worst on the first day of the period. After that, the menstrual cramps gradually become less and generally disappear when the menstrual period stops.
Homeopathic medicines for menstrual pain
Homeopathy can improve menstrual problems acutely, but also permanently. The homeopathic medicine strengthens the body’s self-healing powers, so that menstruation can be symptom-free. How should homeopathic medicines be taken?
In classical homeopathy, homeopathic medicines are used as single remedies. Homeopathic complex remedies are also available for the treatment of menstrual pain. They combine various homeopathic medicines for menstrual pain. They are offered as suppositories, tablets and drops. If you want to use complex agents, follow the recommendations on the package insert.
The potencies 6X and 12X are suitable for treating acute menstrual pain with homeopathic individual remedies. The most common are globules, drops and tablets. A dose consists of three globules, three drops or one tablet that you let melt under your tongue. You can then take this dose every hour in acute cases. You should not take a potency such as Pulsatilla D6 more than ten times a day, and a potency D12 no more than six times a day. Repeat the intake until the symptoms are significantly better.
Higher potencies such as 30C, 200C or 1000C are suitable for the treatment of menstrual problems when prescribed as part of homeopathic therapy. However, these should be selected by homeopathically trained doctors.
How else can you relieve period pain?
In addition to homeopathy, there are other ways to prevent menstrual cramps or to be able to deal with them better.
Here are some tips:
- Heat has a soothing, relaxing and anticonvulsant effect. You can take advantage of the heat with a hot water bottle or a cherry stone pillow on your stomach. Warm baths or a visit to the sauna have also proven effective for menstrual pain.
- Do sports, especially endurance sports. Sports such as jogging, Nordic walking, hiking, cycling and swimming are particularly suitable.
- A leisurely walk can improve menstrual pain in acute cases. A strenuous exercise session also helps some women.
- With relaxation, you can effectively counteract menstrual cramps. Yoga, autogenic training and other relaxation techniques are suitable for this. All of this will help you avoid or better manage stress.
- Herbal remedies such as chaste tree, lady’s mantle, cinquefoil, yarrow or black cohosh can also be used. These plants are said to help regulate the hormone balance and counteract cramps in the uterus and thus menstrual pain.
- Herbs can also be used as a tea to relieve menstrual pain. Mixtures of lady’s mantle, cinquefoil, nettle leaves, sage, yarrow, verbena, shepherd’s purse, raspberry leaves, willow bark and peppermint are particularly effective.
- Treatment with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can bring relief to menstrual pain.
- Eat a balanced diet and make sure you get enough nutrients.
- Avoid consuming foods that contain endocrine disruptors and additives.
