What is Atropinum sulfuricum?
Atropinum sulfuricum is one of the homeopathic remedies rarely used in self-medication.
It acts on the autonomic nervous system and inhibits the effects of the parasympathetic nervous system, which controls bodily functions. Atropine sulphate is used in homeopathy for smooth muscle spasms. These include stomach upsets, intestinal colic, bladder problems, spasms and whooping cough. The drug is also used for headaches, Parkinson’s disease and epilepsy or epilepsy-like conditions. The psychological effect focuses on coping with childhood trauma and repression.
Atropinum sulfuricum is considered an acute remedy that is used in the short term for cardiovascular and lung diseases, including resuscitation measures. It acts quickly, but requires a prescription up to and including the potency D3.

Dosage form of Atropinum sulfuricum
The remedy is administered as globules or tablets in low potency and low frequency (acute remedy).
Atropinum sulfuricum dosage
If required, five globules D4, D6 or D12, alternatively one tablet in the given potencies, are given. As soon as the symptoms show an improvement, the drug must be discontinued.
Atropinum sulfuricum during pregnancy
You should not self-medicate with Atropinum sulfuricum during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Side effects of Atropinum sulfuricum
Trembling and dilated pupils as well as an irregular heartbeat can occur as a result of the initial aggravation. The symptoms must not last longer than a maximum of one hour, otherwise the drug must be discontinued immediately. Children and pregnant women should only be given Atropinum sulfuricum under expert supervision. Atropine sulfate is not suitable for patients with known high blood pressure or glaucoma.
The remedy is only freely available from potency D4.

Atropinum sulfuricum is not quite as severe as belladonna for vision problems. In Belladonna, the pupils are more dilated and the patients are very sensitive to light.
