Application information
Dosage forms of Harpagophytum
Due to its bitter taste, devil’s claw is increasingly being used in capsule form. The homeopathic application amounts to dosage forms in potencies between D2 and D6.
Harpagophytum dosage
In self-medication, if you have stomach problems, you take five globules D6 or D12 as needed, in acute cases every half hour, otherwise three doses a day until the symptoms show improvement.
Joint and back problems are treated in higher potencies from D30. One-time weekly or – in the case of very high potencies – monthly or even rarer doses are sufficient here.
Harpagophytum effect
Harpagophytum acts on joints and muscles.
Harpagophytum in pregnancy
Harpagophytum is helpful in the treatment of rheumatic complaints and joint wear. It relieves stomach problems such as nausea and loss of appetite as well as back and joint problems that can typically occur frequently during pregnancy. Nevertheless, the drug is rarely administered to pregnant women and is only suitable to a limited extent for independent therapy.
Harpagophytum for the baby
Harpagophytum is not usually given to babies.
Harpagophytum for dogs, horses and cats
Harpagophytum is often used to treat osteoarthritis in animals. The focus is on changes in the joints and spine with sudden onset of pain and lameness.
Harpagophytum side effects
Persistent side effects or contraindications are not known to date. Taking Harpagophytum can temporarily intensify the symptoms. However, the original substance is said to promote the contraction of the uterus. The remedy should therefore only be administered during pregnancy, but also during breastfeeding, ideally in consultation with a specialist.
Typical potencies: Harpagophytum is mainly used in the potencies 6X and 12X.
