An abscess is a type of large pus-filled pimple. It is a cavity in the tissue that is filled with pus. The body encapsulates the pus-filled cavity to prevent further spread of the infection. Colloquially, an abscess is also called a boil.

Symptoms
Abscesses can appear on different parts of the body. Internal organs can be affected, but most often abscesses are located just under the skin. Causes of abscesses
