Description of Agaricus Muscarius
Agaricus Muscarius is a homeopathic remedy obtained from the mother tincture of Agaricus Muscarius, which is a poisonous mushroom better known as Amanita muscaria, evil ovule or ovolaccio.
The fungus grows in the undergrowth of Europe, Asia and America. Reddish in color, the hat also has numerous spots ranging from white to yellow.
Thevolaccio was used, until not long ago, to produce an insecticide effective especially against flies. In homeopathy, fresh mushroom or dried hat is used.
When using Agaricus Muscarius
Ingestion of the fungus causes severe intoxication. The poison acts on the neuro-motor system causing excitation and accentuated motor incoordination, as after a drunkenness.
Which means that muscle spasms, tremor, pain, burning, tingling spread in various parts of the body, such as ears, nose, face, hands and feet, can occur.
This homeopathic remedy is nicely referred to as “the remedy of the drunk”. The great characteristic of the homeopathic remedy Agaricus Muscarius is the feeling that you feel like being touched by frozen needles.
It is generally used in the following cases:
- abuse of alcoholic beverages
- dizziness

Doses and administration
For doses and administration it is always good to consult your trusted homeopath.
- In general, in cases of chilblains the recommended dose is 4 or 5CH, 15 drops or 5 granules 3 times a day, combining applications of Calendula and Agaricus cream 3 – 4 times a day. For children the dose is 7 or 9CH, 3 granules 3 times a day.
- In the case of fever the dose is 6CH, 5 – 10 drops or 3 granules every hour. In all other cases, where there is alteration of the central nervous system or alterations in sensitivity, the dose is 4D, 20 drops 3 times a day before meals or 2 tablets 3 times a day.

The Agaricus Muscarius type is excited, has reduced reflexes, difficulty concentrating, slow understanding, weak memory, numbness, dizziness, uncertain and wavering gait; hands easily drop objects, has involuntary movements with the feeling of falling backwards, spasms, tremors that disappear during sleep and reappear in the morning, disarticulation of speech.
