Vitamin deficiency: 6 symptoms
Acne can be the consequence of a vitamin A deficiency. Find out about the consequences of vitamin deficiency and how to get these nutrients through your diet.
A lack of vitamins creates problems that are usually associated with the change of seasons. Without vitamins we feel more tired and apathetic; all this allows viruses to make us sick more easily.
Symptoms of Vitamin Deficiency
1. Paleness
During the winter few people can sport a bronze complexion, but if you are very pale, at least more than usual, it can indicate a vitamin B12 deficiency.
This deficiency will be noticed as without vitamin B12 we will feel depressed and tired. To compensate for this deficiency, it is essential to consume more meat and seafood.
If, on the other hand, the skin is dry, it may indicate a lack of vitamins A and C. Vitamin A is very important for maintaining skin health, especially after exposure to the sun.
Vitamin C, on the other hand, is essential for the synthesis of collagen which is used by the body to produce new hair, regenerate the skin, grow nails and connective tissues and also to strengthen the immune system.
In order to obtain these substances, it is recommended to consume curly kale, peppers (especially the red, orange and yellow varieties), cabbage, carrots, romaine lettuce, spinach, apricots, grapefruits, oranges and plums.
2. Dry hair
Dry and brittle hair can indicate a deficiency in biotin , also known as vitamin B7.
This happens, for example, after taking antibiotics. To increase the level of vitamin B7, it is necessary to eat meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, mushrooms and legumes more frequently.
Even the dandruff may constitute an alarm signal, since it is produced due to a shortage of vitamins B2 and B6. A deficiency in essential minerals such as zinc and magnesium can also have this effect.
Dandruff can be produced, among other reasons, by nutritional deficiencies. To avoid this, include foods such as dark chocolate, peanuts, carrots, eggs, bran, nuts, fish, and beans in your diet.
3. Puffy eyes
If you have puffy eyes, you may have an iodine deficiency. To solve this problem, try to add some iodized salt to your meals.
You have to keep in mind that iodine is also found in seafood, dairy products and even bread.
If you suffer from light sensitivity, perhaps the problem lies in a vitamin A and vitamin B2 deficiency. In any case, if you have eye and vision problems, the best thing to do is to consult a specialist. Only in this way can you make sure you don’t have a more serious problem.
4. Pale lips
Pale lips are usually the symptom of a lack of iron . You can also check this by noting that you chill frequently and if you feel you have low blood pressure.
To compensate for the lack of iron, you need to eat more red meat and temporarily avoid products with a high calcium content as they prevent iron absorption.
5. Bleeding gums
If your gums bleed, it is possible that you are suffering from vitamin C deficiency. If we lack this vitamin, the immune system is weakened.
All of this will cause pain in the muscles and bones, as well as dental problems. Vitamin C is present in large quantities in citrus fruits and red peppers.
6. Acne
Acne can be a clear sign of a vitamin deficiency, especially vitamin A. We can find it in foods such as fish, liver, egg yolk, butter and green and yellow vegetables.
Vitamin E, on the other hand, is found in wheat germ, liver, olive oil seeds, and green leafy vegetables such as spinach and cauliflower.
