What is aconite?
The homeopathic single remedy Aconitum helps with negative emotions that arise from anger or fright and are favored by dry, cold winds and at midnight. They typically appear very suddenly and are characterized by intense pain, restlessness and fear (of death).
As a constitutional remedy with an effect on the heart and circulation, aconite is indicated above all for patients in shock; but is also used for all acute symptoms of inflammation and colds as well as for incompletely opened cervix and urinary problems in infants.

How do you recognize patients who need Aconite?
Aconitum is robust and lively, has a full pulse and frequent dizziness. He falls ill quickly, but recovers just as quickly.
Aconitum adults are tremendously anxious. They have a particularly strong fear of death and are sure they will die soon. They are plagued by other fears such as claustrophobia or fear of large crowds or an earthquake. Anxiety can escalate to states of genuine panic. The patients are physically extremely restless. You cannot sit or lie still. They are constantly changing positions or walking around anxiously.
Aconitum children are impatient, stubborn, tend to fight and see everything negatively at first. Her physical restlessness is striking. They are constantly on the move, which is a particular problem at school as they cannot sit still in their chairs.

Dosage forms of aconite
The usual potencies for aconite are between 4X and 12X. Due to the extreme toxicity of the plant, all dosages up to D3 require a prescription.
Aconite dosage
Aconitum is usually given in the potency D30. Five globules are given every hour until there is an improvement. Alternatively, 10 globules dissolved in water can be taken in sips five minutes apart. Children and newborns receive a single dose of three globules D30.

Aconitum acts on the central nervous system, heart and circulatory system, joints and respiratory tract.
Aconite in pregnancy
In addition to the treatment of colds and flu infections during pregnancy, Aconitum is considered an immediate remedy if the woman giving birth suddenly experiences fear of death during childbirth, which makes birth difficult. It is also used to ease the afterbirth and to treat postpartum mastitis, as well as urinary retention that can occur in both the mother and the child in childbirth.
Aconitum for newborns
The remedy helps to overcome the birth trauma, especially in the case of caesarean section children or very complicated deliveries. Giving the drug right after birth reduces the risk of newborn jaundice.
Aconite for the baby
Aconitum is the main remedy for treating croup cough. Typically, the cough appears before midnight.
Aconitum helps with sudden colds with high fever.
The infants were often previously exposed to cold winds or draughts. Babies are restless, very thirsty and have constricted pupils.
Aconitum for dogs, horses and cats

Side Effects of Aconite
There are no side effects recorded. When breastfeeding, Aconitum should not be taken directly before breastfeeding, but at least 15 minutes before, preferably after.
Similar means
belladonna
Aconitum and Belladonna are helpful for complaints that develop very suddenly and have a violent course. In infectious diseases with high fever, the two remedies have proven to be very helpful. Differentiation is possible based on various signs. Belladonna is not thirsty during fever, while aconite develops a great thirst for cold drinks. Absent the typical anxiety and restlessness of aconite, belladonna will be more helpful. In Belladonna the face is crimson, whereas in Aconitum the face is flushed when lying down and becomes pale when sitting up. The pupils can also be used to identify which of the two means is indicated. Dilated pupils are indicative of belladonna and constricted pupils are indicative of aconite.
Phosphorus
In the case of fear of death, Aconitum and Phosphorus can be considered for treatment. Phosphorus also has this panicky fear, but without the pronounced restlessness of Aconite. Aconitum should be given when the panic attacks have been triggered by a great fright or shock.
Stramonium
In the case of anxiety states after a fright or shock, Stramonium is often used in addition to Aconitum . People in need of Stramonium often wake up panicking. You then need some time to orientate yourself and really wake up.
