What is Ipecacuanha?

  • Constant nausea that is not relieved by vomiting
  • Slimy vomit

Application information

Dosage forms of Ipecacuanha

Due to its strong toxic effects, ipecacuanha requires a prescription in potencies up to and including 3X; however, the usual uses are between D6 and D12.

Ipecacuanha dosage

How often the remedy is given, possibly alternately or in addition to other homeopathic remedies, should be coordinated based on the prevailing symptoms. Classic is a dose of five globules of Ipecacuanha in the potency D12 in case of need, preferably dissolved in water. If the symptoms last longer, the dose is increased to five globules or three tablets of D12 three times a day.

Ipecacuanha effect

Ipecacuanha acts on the digestive organs, the autonomic nervous system and the respiratory tract.

Ipecacuanha in pregnancy

Ipecacuanha is one of the homeopathic remedies used to treat morning sickness. It focuses primarily on morning sickness with accompanying vomiting, but can also be used for persistent symptoms. Depending on the symptoms, Ipecacuanha can be served alternately with Nux vomica.

Ipecacuanha for the baby

The homeopathic Ipecacuanha can be helpful in treating coughs. The babies have red cheeks and a clean tongue. Rattling noises are audible when breathing. The coughing fits are accompanied by nausea and often end with vomiting. The cough is spasmodic and can cause shortness of breath.

Ipecacuanha for dog, horse and cat

Ipecacuanha is indicated when animals suffer from persistent vomiting. In addition, mucous diarrhea can occur.
The homeopathic remedy is used for bright red bleeding. If breast milk is reddish in lactating females, Ipecacuanha may be indicated. The homeopathic remedy can also be helpful for bleeding from the uterus after childbirth.

Side Effects of Ipecacuanha

Side effects are not known. The remedy should only be used if it looks appropriate and in lower potencies (up to D12). If there is no improvement or, in rare cases, a persistent deterioration in the symptoms, ipecacuanha is not suitable from a homeopathic point of view and should be discontinued immediately. Higher potencies are ideally to be agreed with a homeopath.
