Phosphoricum Acidum in homeopathy: properties, benefits and uses (all you need to know)

Phosphoricum acidum is the concentrated phosphoric acid that comes in the form of colorless crystals or viscous liquid. In Homeopathy it is indicated mainly in depressions with nervous exhaustion characterized by deep asthenia, in headaches or after-effects from excessive intellectual fatigue, in bone growth disorders, as a support to asthenia from acute debilitating diseases.

What is phosphoric acid and how AND HOW IT IS it is used

Phosphoric acid in nature is particularly abundant in mammalian bones: it plays a fundamental role in cells, as it is contained in nucleic acids (RNA, DNA), nucleotides (AMPc, ATP) and is able to release high amounts of energy for cellular needs by hydrolysis.

As for its use, we know that phosphoric acid was used in the past in the medical field for the treatment of rickets, hemorrhages and impotence. Today it is used in dentistry as a solution to clean and roughen the surface of the teeth in the areas where to apply fillings or dental appliances. It is also used in many toothpastes or tooth lightening treatments and is an ingredient in anti-nausea medications.

Most of the phosphoric acid produced, however, is intended for the production of phosphate fertilizers, detergents, fertilizers and additives for synthetic feed.

Phosphoricum acidum: homeopathic remedy

The homeopathic preparation of Phosphoricum acidum is obtained by diluting the element in water for the first three dynamizations and in pure alcohol from the fourth onwards.

Phosphoricum acidum is indicated:

  • At the neurological level: in depressions with nervous exhaustion characterized by deep asthenia and a sharp decrease in memory; in headaches or after-effects from excessive intellectual fatigue such as students prostrated by study or in any case as a result of a very strong period of work stress;
  • At the level of the digestive system: in acute and chronic diarrhea, not painful but exhausting, characterized by meteorism and abdominal dilation;
  • At a general level: in the disorders of bone growth, due to excessive loss of phosphorus and calcium through the urine, with intense pain in the periosteum; as a support to asthenia from acute debilitating diseases that result in loss of body fluids; in early hair and hair loss following emotional shocks or sudden bereavement.

This remedy is suitable: in acute and chronic cases; in children; in boys of pubertal age; in the elderly and in subjects particularly passionate, emotional and often unable to adapt and neutralize emotional stresses.

Phosphoricum acidum in case of asthenia

As we have just seen Phosphoricum acidum is one of the remedies indicated in case of asthenia. The term asthenia comes from the Greek “astenos” which means “devoid of strength”. Asthenia or fatigue is a condition characterized by weakness, more or less marked, at the muscular level and by a decrease in the energy of the whole organism.

Recognizing the origin of asthenia is extremely complex because many conditions (pathological and otherwise) can trigger it. In a more general sense it is an important spy of something that does not work regularly, a message of the body that “abandons”, that can no longer manage the energies. When fatigue does not have a specific organic cause but is a clear symptom of a psychic discomfort we speak of neurasthenia. This is the correct definition of that syndrome that is commonly referred to as “nervous breakdown”. People with neurasthenia suffer from chronic fatigue, have slowed movements, memory impairments and difficulty concentrating. The fatigue of the neurasthenic is psychic but flows into the body.

There are numerous homeopathic remedies useful in case of asthenia: Phosphoricum acidum, for example, is used when there is a clear and immediate relationship between mental asthenia and physical asthenia. The subject Phosphoricum acidum is in fact apathetic, sad and passive. His weakness arises after prolonged sorrows, worries or exhausting sufferings over time and often other symptoms such as acne, sweating and hair loss manifest themselves in him.

Phosphoricum acidum: constitutional type

The type Phosphoricum acidum is generally of longilinear constitution, it is a rapidly grown subject that tends to bone growth disorders with frequent painless diarrhea and calcium phosphate losses.

His appearance is pale and sickly, he has sunken eyes and surrounded by bluish halos, he is also listless and apathetic, he does not want to talk and is troubled by sorrow.

The most characteristic aspects of his personality are:

  • a strong affective and passionate charge
  • emotionality
  • inability to adapt or neutralize emotional stress
  • progressive deterioration of intellectual abilities and memory
  • depression and apathy with affective indifference towards any stimulus or situation

Passion causes him to live at the extreme degrees, according to a pleasure-displeasure polarity, all psychic experiences. It also prevents him from accepting situations of deep discomfort and intense suffering and makes him particularly vulnerable to emotional stress, to experiences of rejection or real or phantasmic loss.

Nostalgia binds him to the past, feeds an ardent and painful desire for people, things, places or situations already passed and that he would like to relive, prevents him from verbalizing, downloading or in any case operating a cognitive integration aimed at overcoming the suffering of the present.

He avoids facing situations, especially those that cause him strong stress, and this state of constant passivity affects his mental lucidity leading to depression and immune alterations.

Symptoms of the subject Phosphoricum acidum:

  • they worsen with the cold, with drafts, with both physical and mental exertion
  • improve with heat and after a short sleep
